Engineering Change for Prototype Part
PROBLEM:
- Two-point fastener system for holding bearings was insufficient
- Needed to make engineering change but no time to implement
SOLUTION:
- Add new boss to design and build up by cold spraying formulated aluminum powders SST-A0027 (Al-Al2O3-Zn)
FINISHING:
- Machine to tolerance, solution passed torque specification and saved customer 8 to 10 weeks in their engine test program
Adding Engine Block Boss
PROBLEM:
- NEEDED TO ADD FOUR BOSSES ON MACHINED SURFACE OF ALREADY BUILT ENGINE BLOCKS FOR TESTING AND VALIDATION. WELDING WAS NOT AN OPTION

- BUILD UP THE BOSSES DIRECTLY ON THE MACHINE SURFACES USING COLD SPRAY WITH SST-A0027 ALUMINUM POWDERS

SOLUTION:
- SST-A0050 blend used to restore dimensional tolerance and structural integrity.
